Symptoms:

It registers various incomprehensible errors in the log and cannot find the e-mail.

Reasons:

Your server connection parameters are set up incorrectly.

Solution(s):

More often than not the mistake is that users write domain instead of login, e.g. if your e-mail box is myaccount@gmail.com, then the login will be myaccount and not myaccount@gmail.com. If you are using Gmail and its features, then you must indicate the original login rather than those logins that you get when you apply these features.

Perhaps you have installed/forgotten SSL (Secure Sockets Layer).
